Two great sites: LinuxMusicians.com and AloneTone.com
I have been having trouble recently with an aspect of my own music creation on my computer, which runs Ubuntu Linux. Thus, I have been searching the internet forums for solutions and hints. In that time, I came across a website which seems made for people like me, and another website that is also great for musicians. These websites are all about online communities and sharing music and tips. They are:
LinuxMusicians.com
This is a website that was created by a musician in Texas, USA, for people like him who use Linux, but use it to create music. An operating system like Apple's OS X can come with great programs for music and recording, but none of us have the money for that type of system. Open Source software is not commercially supported, and thus can have many bugs. Sites such as these are essential if there is a there is a problem, sites which offer community-based help.
It is a great site, even if you use Windows but just want to speak to other musicians and share ideas. Many of the programs used on Linux systems can also run on Windows, so there's no need to be scared. The site features forums to share ideas, to get help, and to support one another in music creation. People are encouraged to post their own musical creations so that others can comment on them.
All is all, a great community-based place to be a musician, to get support, and to find friends in other countries.
AloneTone.com
This is an attractive and professional site where users can post their own created songs. It is a place to share and be yourself. Bands can upload their music, and others can download and comment on it. I believe this site is great for first-time bands who want to make a name for themselves. Sharing their music could be a great way to publicise it.
Granted, not all the music is great quality, but this is a review of the site, not the music. There is great potential hosted at this site, and it is definitely worth a visit if you want new sounds. I think it would be perfect to find ideas, collaborate, and make contacts with other musicians (apart from Mic Professionals' site, of course!)
