Writing Sheet Music in Linux

The Problem

I have been a Linux user for about a year now, having used Windows XP successfully for years, and a copy of Sibelius 3 catered to my sheet music writing needs. However, due to many reasons, I migrated and began using Ubuntu Linux. Yet Linux is incredibly tricky when it comes to using any program with MIDI. I have struggled with playing MIDI on and off for about a year with varying levels of success, and used two programs with varying levels of success to write my music.

The Solution

Now, however, I have managed to solve what my problem seemed to be. I have the latest version of Ubuntu (8.10) and now I have managed to find solutions to my sheet-music-writing problems (where are the hyphens supposed to go?) For more information, visit the Forum and see the entry in the Writing Sheet Music category labelled: "How-To: Sheet Music Software in Linux"

I can't guarantee that this will work every time, so feel free to test it and reply if you have any problems. Right now, I will go to bed for my afternoon nap (it was a tiring three weeks past, working with children...) and then come back and finish that tutorial!

I didn't know writing sheet music in Linux is any different than writing sheet music in Windows. -Bob free piano sheet music

Re: free piano sheet music

True... but then again, this blog post is very old, when I was still new to the entire software scene... Perhaps it should be renamed "Sheet Music Software in Linux" ?
